OCAPICA's Latest News

Youth Employment

OCAPICA provides employment and training services for Orange County youth ages 16-24 that have barriers to employment. These programs provide family-centered, culturally and linguistically competent services. Participants will identify their strengths, build skills to address their needs, and work with OCAPICA staff to find meaningful employment earning a living wage. In addition to one-on-one case management, we conduct workshops that will help participants develop their education plan and career interests, become goal oriented, and gain special skills to prepare them for their futures.

Employment Preparation Program (EPP), Work Experience (WEX), Vocational Training (VTR)

Buena Park Location:

The Employment Preparation Program (EPP), Work Experience (WEX) and Vocational Training (VTR) programs are activities made available by Orange County Social Services Agency (SSA) in partnership with the Orange County Workforce Investment Board. EPP, WEX, and VTR are activities for CalWORKS Welfare-to-Work Participants. These activities are meant to provide job training and work experience that will enhance and facilitate opportunities for Welfare-to-Work participants to obtain and/or maintain stable unsubsidized employment and ultimately meet their end goal of achieving economic self-sufficiency.

Employment Preparation Program (EPP)
EPP is a paid employment opportunity in public or private, non-profit or for-profit organizations, with a focus on County of Orange worksites, for a period of six (6) months. OCAPICA will provide job placements as well as work readiness workshops and job skills enhancement opportunities. OCAPICA pays participants at a rate not to exceed the prevailing California Minimum Wage, for each hour worked.

Work Experience (WEX)
WEX is a planned, structured learning experience that occurs in the Worksite for a period of twelve (12) weeks. OCAPICA will provide WEX services to the Participants and pays participants at a rate not to exceed the prevailing California Minimum Wage, for each hour worked. At the end of the training period it is generally expected that the employer will hire the Participant as a regular employee.

Vocational Training (VTR)
VTR is a temporary, transitional, and short-term training activity, not to exceed twelve (12) months, to prepare Participants for employment in a specific trade, occupation, or vocation. VTR activities are provided by vocational-technical schools, postsecondary institutions, or proprietary schools and public institutions. VTR activities are made available to Participants in areas identified as growth oriented, current or emerging occupations, meeting an unmet community need, and in high demand for new employees.
